Howdy all! Well, it looks like my long blog absence will result in a long blog update! Bear with me, lots of stuff going on! :)
Last weekend was another great lake weekend. Lisa's birthday is coming up on Wednesday (
Happy Early Birthday, Lisa!) so we used that as an excuse to celebrate all weekend! We met Lisa and Geoff and their friends Stefan and Nadia at Oasis Friday night. Saturday, Viet, Chris, Richie and Natalie headed out to the lakehouse and Lisa used her super powers to keep the thunderstorms at bay! We had planned on playing board games all day but were able to get in some good lake time and even some sunshine here and there. Then we all hit Carlos 'n' Charlie's for some dinner and dancing. Lots of fun! Sunday, the boys headed back out to the lakehouse for more fun on the water.
Natalie skipped the lake on Sunday to attend auditions for the
Bat Girls, which is the dance team associated with Austin's minor league ice hockey team, the
Ice Bats. And it turns out she made the team! So look for her on the ice starting in October.
Sunday was also Scott's birthday... so
Happy Birthday, Scooter!! If you can hear us from Michigan, anyway! ;)
Last week, besides our usual busy-ness from dance and volleyball, we got to spend some time with Lisa and Geoff, who were vacationing at the lakehouse for the week. We joined them at some of our favorite local haunts including Hula Hut, Hills Cafe (to see South Austin Jug Band), and Amy's Ice Cream.
The
weekend before last (June 19-20), we got a little overbooked and had to split up to cover all of our bases. Richie headed to Houston to celebrate Father's Day with his Dad, play in a sand volleyball tournament with friend Milk (they got 2nd), take his nieces and nephews to an Astros game, and attend Viet and Chris's Benefit Poker Tournament (the benefitee was Brooke, a friend from volleyball who is expecting her first child in the fall). Natalie stayed closer to home, joining her dad's side of the family in Seguin to celebrate cousin Ashley's graduation from high school. Ashley will be Fightin' Texas Aggie class of 2008!
Whoop! On Sunday, she attended a Bat Girls pre-audition workshop.
of course, Sunday was also
Father's Day! So a late
Happy Father's Day to Dad B (who was in Australia for business), Dad D, Grandad and Grandpa! We love you!
Week before last was a busy one too! Natalie had her monthly Book Club meeting and we had dinner with Richie's volleyball friends, hosted by the newlywed Huy and Benny. We'd also like to wish a (late)
Happy Birthday to Natalie's Grandad, who turned 75 on March 17.
And the
weekend before that, Natalie co-hosted a 'Relive Your Wedding' party with a friend of hers from Book Club. They threw a cake and punch 'reception' and invitees brought their wedding albums/videos and donned their favorite wedding accessories (shoes, tiara, jewelry, etc.). It was fun to see the details of everyone's big day and relive our own! The boys (Richie, Viet, Chris, Peter and Tim) spent Saturday at the lake while Natalie got ready for the party, and got together at Gomer's apartment to play poker afterwards. Sunday, the whole crew headed back out to the lake and enjoyed a lazy day at Muleshoe Bend Park.
And I think I'm all the way up to date now! Whew! Pictures (any that we managed to both take and get posted anyway) are now up on our
pictures page. Enjoy!
Well, I guess summer is now in full swing because we have been BUSY!
Richie just got back from Atlanta, Georgia where he and his 6-man indoor volleyball team competed in the 2004 USA Volleyball Open Championships. The first two days of the tourney were pool play, and Richie's team went 4-6, placing them in the Bronze Division for Men's A. Friday and Saturday, they rallied to beat Army in two games (25-23, 25-22) and Spike Force in two games (25-23, 35-33), which gave them first place in the bronze division!

With Richie in Atlanta, Natalie made plans of her own for the weekend. She and Lisa spent Friday night checking out the nightlife in downtown Houston. Saturday morning, she headed to Port O'Connor to meet Brad and Amanda and Dad B and Brigid for a fishing and beach camping trip. It wasn't a particularly abundant fishing trip, but between the five of us there were a few keepers - Brad had a nice-sized redfish. Most notable may have been what we did NOT keep - Amanda reeled in a 3-foot shark and Natalie pulled in an 18-inch shark of her own! Yikes! We let them keep the hooks. ;) Weather at the beach was unseasonably cool and the breeze kept the bugs at bay, so it made for a very pleasant evening. Sunday afternoon, we had a family dinner with Grannie Mae and Papa and Uncle Ron and Catalina, courtesy of Brigid. Yum!
Going further back to Memorial Day weekend, we took it pretty easy. We caught a Round Rock Express game (courtesy of Natalie's company) Friday evening which turned out to be a lot of fun - the home team won 3-2 and there was a great fireworks display after the game. Saturday, we woke up feeling poorly due to allergies - Richie's had him coughing pretty badly - so we opted to skip out on climbing with Brad and Amanda and instead spent the day relaxing. We recovered enough to join them at The Pier (a great, laid-back bar/grill/music venue on Lake Austin) Saturday evening to listen to The Gourds, a local band who we always enjoy.
Sunday and Monday we spent at Lake Travis, along with Lisa, Chris, Viet, Brad and Amanda. We tried out a new lakefront park - Muleshoe Bend - and really enjoyed it! There were a lot of people out on Sunday, but luckily we got a great spot that didn't feel crowded at all. By Monday afternoon, we had the place to ourselves and enjoyed some great, glassy water for wakeboarding and skiing. We even got Amanda up for the first time on the waterskis - she's a quick study!
Of course, we have pictures from most of this stuff and hopefully they'll get posted soon. :) In the meantime, we're living vicariously through some folks who are on the road at the moment...
Mama B is in New York City tonight (along with Natalie's Aunt Tessie) to perform with her civic choir at Carnegie Hall. When they're not preparing for their NYC debut, they've been busy playing tourist in the Big Apple. What fun! Mom D and Auntie Mely are in the Philippines visiting family - Auntie Mely is finally getting to see her family back there after 20 years of being unable to leave the U.S., waiting on the necessary documents. We hope you are all having a great time and we wish we could be there with you!!
