Sun, surf, and sand...

Enjoying our seventh year of marriage!

Hello out there in www-land! Yes, I realize I've been a delinquent poster lately, but I will attempt to correct that now.

Let's see...

This past weekend was the first "official" lake weekend of the year, and we had quite a turnout! Lisa and Geoff (our gracious hosts at the lakehouse/dock), Courtney and Spence, Brad and Amanda, Chris, and Viet. Dad and Brigid were even in town and were able to join us for dinner Saturday night. Fiesta!!

The weather was a little too cloudy and cool to be prime lake weather, but we did get a decent amount of wakeboarding and skiing in - when we weren't busy either stuffing our faces or on a rescue mission. (Spence had to be rescued a couple of times due to a misbehaving jetski, and then Geoff got volunteered to tow a disabled boat that flagged us down to the nearest marina.)

Oh yes, and a small group of us caught the late show of Shrek 2 Friday night - very cute! :)

Weekend before last, we had planned to be in the Houston area for a sand volleyball tournament, but it got cancelled Friday afternoon due to standing water on the courts. But since plans were already in place, we decided to go ahead and head out to Katy Friday evening. We arrived in time for Natalie and Lisa to get in some good country dancing while Richie relaxed and caught up with Rob and Lori and the kids.

Saturday turned out to be a beautiful day (of course!), and Richie spent most of it playing sand volleyball with the guys. Natalie and Lisa had some good girl time, getting mani/pedis and then enjoying a lazy late afternoon lunch on the patio at Taco Milagro. That evening, we took advantage of Lisa's mom's amazing backyard pool/hot tub/outdoor kitchen setup and grilled fajitas for dinner before catching the late showing of Troy, which was... okay. Really violent and too long, IMHO.

Sunday, we joined Richie's family at the inaugural service at their church's new building. The building itself is really neat (different!), and we were honored to be there for such a special day - it's been a long time coming. We also went out to eat to celebrate Haille's birthday. Happy Birthday, Haille!

I think that gets us about caught up. Check out pictures from last weekend in the usual spot.

Greetings, all! I'm here as usual, to update you about our weekend. (Since we all know nothing really exciting ever happens during the week - stupid work!)

Friday evening we met up with some friends as a "Bon Voyage" to one couple who left for Europe this weekend. Lucky dogs!!! Afterwards, we went home and made a pizza (homemade whole wheat crust and all!) and watched the Friends finale that we'd taped. We're really going to miss that show... we've been watching it (although not religiously) for so long!

(It was also Karmen's birthday, so a late Happy Birthday! to her! And also to Scottghi whose birthday was on Thursday!)

Saturday we headed up to Fort Worth for the wedding of one of Richie's volleyball teammates. The wedding was a full Catholic mass, but it was also all in Vietnamese (both the bride and groom are Vietnamese, so I guess we shouldn't have been surprised)! So that was interesting. Then we realized that there was a three hour delay between the wedding and reception that had not been mentioned on the invitations, so we had a couple of hours to kill. We (me and Richie and a handful of the other volleyball people and their dates) ended up at the legendary honky tonk Billy Bob's, which none of us had ever seen before. It was neat, but definitely pretty dead (and touristy) on a Saturday afternoon! We'll have to go back there sometime when it's hopping - it looked like it would be fun!

We got to the reception a few minutes before the scheduled time (we'd run out of stuff to do!) and were the first ones there. The party didn't really start going for another hour and a half! But once it did, it was a lot of fun. The proceedings were again mostly in Vietnamese but one of the girls at our table was translating for us. There was a 10-course Vietnamese meal which was delicious. We had to leave somewhat early (just as the dancing was starting) to drive home, since we didn't realize it would go so late and still had to drive three hours home. So it made for a long day, but it really was a lot of fun - definitely a different wedding experience than what we're used to!

Sunday morning we were exhausted and slept in. Once we finally got moving, we ran a few errands and did some shopping at the mall. Then back to our place, and Brad and Amanda came over for dinner and to watch the finale of Survivor All-Star (although this was actually the only episode Richie and I saw all season!).

We were bummed not to have been able to spend Mother's Day with our moms, but we were definitely thinking of you! Happy Mother's Day, Mom D and Mama B!

Look, I'm posting about the weekend and it's only Wednesday! :)

Last weekend was a crazy one in our house. The AVP pro beach volleyball tour stopped in Austin for the first time in 11 years, so of course we had to be there! And so, apparently, did many of our volleyball buddies from Houston who crashed at our place for the weekend (we had at least five guests each night)! It was a bit chaotic.

Friday was the qualifiers and since some of the people we know from A&M and Galveston were playing in them, Richie and the guys went up to watch (well, Richie did go to work for a couple of hours) during the day. Friday night, we hosted an impromptu poker/board game/hanging out night at our house for all of the out-of-towners and some of the in-towners. It was also Chris's birthday so we had a cake for him to blow out the candles. Happy Birthday, Chris!

Saturday we were supposed to go out to the lake but the weather didn't cooperate - windy, cold, and rainy! And everyone was moving slow, so we didn't really do much of anything. The boys did make it to the tourney for a couple of hours. Saturday night, we all went out downtown for dinner and to celebrate Chris's birthday.

Sunday we were at the tournament all day, watching the final matches of bracket play through the finals. The tourney was a lot of fun - not only do you get to see some great volleyball, but the players are very accessible and it has kind of a beach party atmosphere. AND we had front row seats so we had a great view of the action and a decent amount of TV time! We're famous! Ha!

If you're interested, they're supposed to re-air the finals on Fox Sports the following days:

Sat. May 15, 1:00-2:00PM
Sun. May 16, 5:00-6:00PM
Sat. May 22, 1:00-2:00PM
Sun. May 23, 5:00-6:00PM

If you watch it, we are in the front row just right of center court... Richie's wearing a bright yellow shirt and an orange hat (should be no trouble seeing him!) and Nat's in a purple top and a blue visor. Or you can save yourself the effort and just go check out our pics in the usual spot.

Tuesday we met up with Brad and Amanda and took Knight Boat for a quick spin on Lake Austin and to dinner at Hula Hut. Love that place, but hate the crowds and the wait! Hopefully it will die down some as everyone gets settled into summer.

Today we closed on our house refinance! Yay for low interest rates!

So, I think that's about it, besides... Feliz Cinco de Mayo!
